August End Notes | Our Silver Anniversary Month

August 31, 2021

Hey, there! It’s been a little while! I’ve been quiet lately because I decided to take a break to celebrate our silver anniversary. While it wasn’t the way we envisioned celebrating our twenty-five-year wedding anniversary, it was quite lovely, nonetheless. I wanted to share a glimpse into our little world from this past month (so here are some snaps from a celebratory sizzling August month) and to check in to see how everyone else’s summer’s been.

Thus far, our anniversary break was truly the silver lining for me this year. As someone who expends a lot of energy doing for others, I’ve grown accustomed to neglecting my own emotional needs and well-being. That certainly has taken its toll on my body and health. I’ve been slowly allowing myself to let go of keeping a rigid schedule and going with the flow of what my body dictates. As social as I am and have been craving the association of good friends, I’m realizing that I’m becoming okay with just being in solitude reading or catching some much-needed zzz’s, lately. Suffice it to say that it felt so good to unplug and be present and still for the sweet moments we spent together – coming to terms with the ‘how in the world we’re celebrating a silver anniversary,’ to unveiling our surprises we planned for each other.

Unlike our last anniversary, where every turn I took around the house was a mind-blowing, jaw-dropping surprise gift, this year he went for the unexpected non-material, can’t be wrapped up in a box, gift idea route, which was perfect! From the private sunset charter cruise to the special dinner reservations where the restaurant’s staff greeted us with a ‘happy anniversary’ wish and did something special for us at the end of each meal at each spot to the sunset swan ride into the dark night under the stars. I was so touched by the amount of thought and diligence that went into executing his surprises that made me feel special and deeply contented. Coincidentally, we seemed to have been on the same wavelength with the idea of gifting each other experiences this year. I made him a book with some of the highlights of our wedded journey together from where we began as a couple up to present with all the wonderful experiences we’ve enjoyed along the way these past twenty-five years, including a couple of specially customized items for him.

It was rather transportive for me to reflect on so many moments of our life as I sorted through photos to put this memory book together. You can’t help but appreciate why experiences result in longer-lasting happiness than material possessions. It’s simply because over time, our satisfaction with the things we buy decreases, whereas our satisfaction with experiences increases. It was a part of the month that filled my heart with a good dose of joy. I just couldn’t be more thankful for these good times shared on this anniversary.

Even though I’ve been quiet on the Instagram app, I’ve been working on several exciting projects behind the scenes, one of which I can’t wait to share! It’s one of those projects that truly has been a labor of love and in the works for quite some time now. So I’m super excited that I will finally get the chance to reveal it soon.

Hope you’ve been enjoying your summer! Xx

Since it was a surprise and hubby wanted me to be warm on the boat, he selected this outfit out of my wardrobe options I had laid out for our planned dates but had I known we were going boating, I would have preferred this more comfortable option.
