As a child, I remember when my mother used to tell me, “eat all your food because there are so many others starving in other places.” It was one of the worst things she could have said to me as it would immediately ruin my appetite for I used to think it was unfair for me to eat while others couldn’t – and I still feel the same way. It’s this inexplicable passion and empathy that has driven me my whole life – a desire of helping others in any way I can. Which made partnering up with Azizi Life a no brainer. Entering into a season that is commercially driven, it was important to me to include this sustainable company and highlight these amazing artisans’ products for those of you who like to support others as much as I do. It’s safe to say that it’s been one of the toughest years yet for everyone across the globe with the pandemic of Covid19. It’s also one of those years I feel has spurred a lot of reflection about things we can do to support and make a difference by considering others outside of our own immediate circle.
I know in these tough economic times, many of us are being more careful when it comes to spending. However, I’d say, if you’re going to make a purchase – make it a purposeful one. A humanitarian one if you will. One that gives back, as each purchase made provides more than simply a fair wage and much-needed income to these amazingly talented Rwandan artisans but provides the opportunity for parents to pay for the care and education of their children.
As someone who has an infinity for craftsmanship, they are one of my favorite brands because of their humanitarian work. Plus, the quality and the unique beauty of their pieces is icing on the cake. Without further ado, here are eight of my favorite items I’ve been enjoyed using in my home from this brand so far:
The unique shape of these taper candles are simply elegant and perfectly completes any table setting. They’re made entirely from beeswax and honey using local hives and sustainable beekeeping practices that ensure that they burn clean and bright.
When I ordered these baskets, I really didn’t have any particular expectations. But wow, the moment, I reached into the box to grab them, I could not be any happier with the way they feel and how nice and well-made they are! Bonus: no toxic odor whatsoever either. Holding these baskets in your hand truly makes you appreciate why handcrafted quality trumps inferior mass-produced, man-made materials. I didn’t waste any time putting them to good use in reorganizing my pantry. They add the perfect chic touch and warmth to my pantry shelves right on time for the fall season (which I’ll be sharing that soon). They’re the chicest way to store your favorite things in plain sight – from corralling your picnic delectables, pantry goods, magazines, bread, and toys to whatever else you can think of. What a wonderful gift they make as well!
This spoon adds a rustic touch to any dish. I also love knowing the story behind the type of tree it’s made from. It’s a tree called Musave – a tree that regrows after it’s been cut. Talk about being resourceful!
These mini lidded baskets not only make pretty decor displays but they are perfect for stashing all sorts of items and/or gift-giving.
This is one of those fun pieces I’d say has form and function all in one stylish storage solution. I love the versatility of this bowl. Envision it holding bread, or with warm breakfast biscuits over a tea towel, or even as a fruit bowl. Also, imagine bright red cherries in there against its black and tea color combo! Or use it to store and clear off your desk clutter. The possibilities are endless. It surely is another great gift-giving piece.
