One of the reasons I fell in love with Palm Springs,
was because during my late teens I was introduced to one of my former best
friends’ beau/fiancée who was from there. His movie-star appearance and
laid-back jovial persona had such a glamour of Hollywood vibe about him, you
couldn’t help but fantasize of what it must be like. Ever since my interest was
peaked, I’ve always wanted to visit this extremely hot part of the California
desert he occasionally talked about. Recently after over two decades of fantasizing
about this place, the hubby and I finally retreated into this beautiful desert
for much-needed R&R. Being careful to not ruin our first impression of the
Palm Springs experience, I felt there was no other place better suited for our
first encounter more than Korakia. Thank goodness for that instinctive choice,
because retreating to that desert oasis made our getaway there even better than
expected!
As soon as we arrived at this Moroccan inspired
Mediterranean villa hideaway, we felt as if we were transported into a secluded
serene oasis island in Santorini Greece or to Morocco. Suffice to say, we
enjoyed a magnificent several days lounging around in hammocks and beautifully
cushioned daybeds by the pool, reading, relieving our minds and souls. Since
the place is within walking distance to their main downtown/uptown strip, we
decided to walk everywhere in town our first day there. The evenings were spent
unwinding, watching old classic movies on a nearby outdoor screen (not too far
from one of the fire pits) under dark starry nights lit up with the occasional
streaks of shooting stars.
Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the
mind. This life makes it so easy to get caught up in career goals, we sometimes
can forget how important it is to take the necessary time to mentally and
creatively recharge. I couldn’t be any more grateful that we chose this desert
jewel, as it was the perfect place for meaningful encounters and experience
stillness for those several days.
