What I want to know is: Why wasn’t I told this as a child? I strongly feel had I been taught this saying at an early age, I would have spared myself self-inflicted pain by relentlessly extending to people who could care less about me. This year, is the year to have that drilled in my head and protect my dignity.

Completely Agree ! Extending one's self to others who don't care about your overall well being is a waste of time. I also believe in order to succeed in life, we need encouragement, support and feedback from individuals who only help us to reach our full potential. And those people care about us !
