Waking up to dreamy Napa Valley lush landscapes where the hubby and I spent part of our anniversary getaway last week, somehow put me in a preppy mood. I suppose seeing all the classic cars of bygone eras driving around in the vineyards, including tall imposing wrought iron gates transported me to an era when dressing up was a natural daily habit. The region is generally cool but I always pack backup outfits for inclement weather depending on the time of year. One of my “in case it’s hot…” short outfits was this one. Before I dress in the morning, I often check what the day’s weather forecast is on my iPhone and guess what? Just because I hate the heat, it of course was going to be a hot one. Naturally, I immediately reached for this particular ensemble which turned out to be on the preppy side, although that was not my intent when I was packing it, but I did nonetheless. Perhaps it’s the private school uniforms that I donned until the time I started public high school, or I was inadvertently channeling my inner Gossip Girl that day. More than that, though, the slick gold zipper light cotton button front navy shorts and the semi-sheer crinkled gauzy cotton peach top with floral mesh detailing around the upper back and shoulders accented with the animal print booties (which I had to switch out to my emergency flats that I keep in my car as the heat rose to an all-time high that afternoon), were enough to provide me the light and airy comfort I needed on that hot humid day while the long sleeves on the shirt kept me warm from the cooler morning and evening air.
