I custom made the drapery panels to soften the windows, but also to sort of hide those hideous vertical blinds… I knew we weren’t staying forever in this space, so I didn’t change them to bamboo shades which I would have preferred. However, if you know you’ll be in a space for a long time, by all means change out any unsightly blinds to add a greater impact and warmth to the space. I’ve never been a fan of carpet, but since it’s a rental I was stuck with it. So I went with a chocolate shag area rug on top of the carpet in the living room to tie in the chocolate brown color from the dining room and kitchen – making the space cohesive. The rug also brings warmth, and personality.
I wanted to share with you some of the before and after pictures of our temporary condo rental in the desert of Henderson,Lost Vegas while we’ve been here for our business. This temporary condo rental was your typical generic ‘blah’ white walled apartment that one usually gets when you rent. However, it met its match! Anyone that knows me well, knows that I don’t live with white walls or in spaces that don’t reflect my/our welcomingpersonality well. Believe me, it could have been a cardboard box and it would still get an immediatemakeover.
You can also refresh your space by making slipcovers for your chairs and change them out for spring or winter. Sometimes the small details can give a room big impact without having to spend a lot of money.
I love the punch of color these red shapely plush velvet chairs bring to the space – not to mention, the nailhead detail on the back of them add a chic touch of sophistication.
I’ve never been afraid of using color and being that this space is so bright, it gave me the perfect opportunity to put a lively teal color on the walls that I balanced out with a rich chocolate brown.
Hopefully the small changes I’ve made in this condo will inspire you to refresh your space letting your style and personality shine irregardless if you own or rent. When you have your home looking its best… surrounding yourself with things that make you happy, you’ll find that you feel rejuvenated when you enter your home, and it’ll also help you not feel overwhelmingly discouraged when you see all the pretty spaces in decorating magazines.
