Fashion is Art

What is art? Basically, it’s the expression of a person’s creative imagination, typically in a visual form producing works that stimulate different parts of our brain with the ability to draw up emotions that otherwise cannot be expressed audibly. I view fashion in a similar light. Most days when I go into my closet to pick out an outfit to wear, I normally allow my mood and creativity dictate what I don for the day. As much as I draw inspiration from the masters in the fashion world and sometimes I’m even influenced by some of their trends, I still adapt my outfits to fit my sense of style and personality. At times, that might mean layering different patterns and textures in one outfit that I feel most comfortable in on that particular day. So rather than comparing myself with what others are doing, I focus more on the inner beauty from within to hopefully radiate through to the outside as I go out in the world. Imagine if Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Picasso or Monet ever looked at each others paintings and thought “eh, my imagination will never beat this guy and my paintings aren’t as good as that artist…I might as well not even try or put paint on my canvas…” Instead each one appreciated their own talent and focused on painting their masterpiece with pride and confidence. And look how far it got them – their work still inspires us today. So just have fun. Your outfits are your canvas -“paint” with confidence – never comparing yourself or allowing others to make you feel inferior about what you wear simply because they’re not the pricey trendy “it” clothes that all those enthroned as “most beautiful” are glamorizing on the cover of magazines.

“One can have no smaller or greater mastery than mastery of oneself.” Leonardo da Vinci
